Best Family Hotels in Majorca from the UK: A Tried and Tested Guide

My opinion after staying 📝

We stayed three nights, and staying here is an experience rather than a booking: everything is decorated and themed, corner by corner.

The shows are the part I would come back for, and I have seen few like them in a family hotel: daily performances, professional dancers and proper costumes. One thing to know in advance, they are in Spanglish, so a British family will follow the show without following every word.

The other strong point is the water. There are several children’s pools with slides, from tiny ones for toddlers up to slides for older children, which is what makes it work across a wide age range instead of just one.

The food I would put at an 8 out of 10: the cooks are attentive, the quality is decent and there was a good range. The rating on the sheet is 8.5, and the thing that keeps it from going higher is the price in high season.

Who I recommend it to

For any family with children up to about 12 who want to feel like actual pirates for a week. It is one of the best hotels with water slides in the Balearics that I have tried.

Not for anyone travelling in August on a tight budget: that is when the price bites.

It is a five-minute walk from the beach, in one of the prettiest parts of Majorca, and that is the first reason to look at it. Because the area is worth eating out in, I would book half board rather than full board.

There are three pools in total: two family pools and a children’s pool that is extremely shallow, the kind you can let a three-year-old walk into. They run water activities and workshops for children, there is a mini disco, and now and then beach volleyball tournaments.

Where it is genuinely different is sport. If you or your children play tennis, the facilities are set up for it and you can carry on with lessons through the holiday instead of losing three weeks of practice. The family rooms are a good size and the food is acceptable.

Who I recommend it to

For families who play sport and want the beach close, in the quieter half of the island.

Not for anyone whose children come for the slides: this one has none.

If you are looking for somewhere that takes a large family without splitting you across two rooms, this is the one. It is in Alcúdia, 200 metres from the beach, with fully equipped apartments of up to 2 bedrooms and room for up to 9 people.

There are pools for the whole family, and the one that stands out is the children’s pool with games, a pirate ship and water slides. There is a mini club, the entertainment team is friendly and the games work. For the adults, the spa is decent.

The weak point is the food: even on the ultra all-inclusive, the buffet could be better.

Who it is for

For large families with young children who want an apartment with a kitchen near the beach. Do not book it for the buffet.

What this hotel is like 📝

What I like most here is the value for money: even in high season you find prices below the average for this kind of hotel. The complex has apartments of up to 2 bedrooms, so it works for large families.

The activities are the other reason. There is a Kids Club for 4 to 12 year olds and a Teen Club with board games, film nights, Xbox tournaments and interactive games, which is rare: most family hotels give up on teenagers. For the little ones there is a children’s pool with slides and a pirate ship.

For the adults there is a chill-out terrace, jacuzzis and a programme of sport. The one thing that does not work is the spa, because children are allowed in it.

Who it is for

For families, including large ones and ones with teenagers, who want plenty going on without paying resort prices.

What this hotel is like 📝

It sits in the middle of Can Picafort and 400 metres from the beach, with both ordinary rooms and one-bedroom apartments. The prices are good, especially out of season.

For children there is plenty: a children’s pool, a water park, a mini club, a mini disco, an entertainment programme and a children’s buffet.

Adults over 16 get into the spa for free, which is unusual. Bear in mind it is small and you have to cross the entire garden to get to it, so it is not a nip downstairs in a robe.

Who it is for

For families with young children or babies who want the apartment option with a kitchen, which with very small children changes the whole week.

What this hotel is like 📝

An apartment complex in Santa Ponsa, three minutes from the beach, and a good fit if you travel with young children. The apartments are fully equipped, spacious and have one bedroom. The thing to know before you book is that the beds are not very comfortable.

There is a buffet restaurant serving breakfast, which is included in the price, and a snack bar with burgers, salads and pizzas for the days nobody wants to cook.

For the children there is a pool, a Kids Club and an entertainment programme; for the adults, sports courts and the usual billiards and darts competitions.

Who it is for

For families with young children who want an apartment with a kitchen and the beach three minutes away, and who sleep well anywhere.

What this hotel is like 📝

This one is in Puerto de Alcúdia, one of the busiest parts of the island, and it has every kind of apartment: studios, one and two bedrooms, and even some with a private pool. The beach is about 400 metres away.

There are two pools, and the one that matters with small children is the children’s pool with slides and splash zones. There is a mini club as well.

For eating there is both à la carte and buffet, so the day nobody wants to cook is covered. Check the restaurant times when you arrive, because they close early.

Who it is for

For families with children up to about 6, large families included, who want an apartment with good facilities around it.

If this one stands out for anything it is what it lays on for the children, and that is what families say about it. There are two water parks: one with bigger slides and a pirate theme, and a splash zone built for the smallest ones.

There is also a Kids Club with genuinely good decoration and ball pits, an entertainment programme and an arcade room. The hotel is aimed at foreign visitors and almost everything runs in English, which for a British family is one less thing to worry about.

To sleep there are standard rooms, some with views or a garden, and apartments. The buffet restaurant is acceptable and varied.

Who it is for

For families with children up to about 12. If what you want is a family hotel with a children’s pool and slides, this is one of the best options on the island.

What this hotel is like 📝

This is one of my favourites for travelling with children, and it is as much about where it is as what it has: a hundred metres from the beach and close to the centre of Pollensa, which is one of my favourite towns on the island. The old quarter has real character and in summer the streets are full.

The complex covers the whole family. Children get a pool with a splash zone and games, and adults get the spa, with treatments and massages.

There is an all-inclusive rate. Two things to know if you take it: the buffet gets repetitive across a week, and the timetable is set up for British guests, so dinner service ends early by Spanish standards.

Who it is for

For families with young children who want the beach and a town worth walking into in the evening, rather than a resort you never leave.

What this hotel is like 📝

It is right on the beachfront at Playa de Muro, which for my money is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and one of the flattest to walk with a pushchair. You can choose between studios and one-bedroom apartments.

There is an outdoor pool and an indoor heated pool with a hot tub, a sauna and a small children’s pool for under-4s, plus a gym you get into for free. The children have entertainment, a Kids Club and a playground.

The buffet restaurant serves breakfast and dinner. Drinks are not included, which is worth doing the sums on before you book.

Who it is for

For families with young children or babies who want the sand at the door and a flat, easy beach.

What this hotel is like 📝

We finish with this three-star, 400 metres from Santa Ponsa beach, with apartments of up to 2 bedrooms: a good option for large families and for small children.

It has 3 outdoor pools, one of them a children’s pool with slides that works up to about 6, and a splash zone that is right for babies. There is a Kids Club, and the complex is aimed at foreign visitors, so most of the activities run in English.

For eating there is a buffet restaurant and a snack bar, and an all-inclusive rate if you want to switch off completely for a week.

Who it is for

For families with children up to about 6 who want all inclusive near the beach without paying resort prices.

Not for older children: the water side runs out early here.
