Albir Garden Resort & Aquapark: My Honest Review After Staying

We stayed at the Albir Garden Resort & Aquapark , one of the most popular hotels in the Alicante area for families. And the main reason we wanted to visit is because it has a fairly large water park , slides, plenty of pool areas and, overall, a very kid-focused setup.
In this article I’ll tell you what it’s like inside, where it shines, where it falls short and whether it’s really worth it compared to other family hotels in the Valencia region.

My quick verdict
We give it a 7.6 out of 10 . This is a hotel that knows its audience: families with kids who want pools, slides and constant entertainment. The water park is fun, the apartments are spacious and the lifeguard and entertainment teams are at a really good level.
But it’s also an older hotel, with apartments that need renovating, pretty bad pillows, poor soundproofing and details that could be better — like the amenities or the maintenance in some areas.
If your priority is keeping the kids happy and you find a good price, it can be a solid choice. If you want something more modern and well-kept, there are better alternatives at the same price point.
Pros and Cons
The good
- Water park: the real star of the hotel. Slides for little ones and for the more daring, very attentive lifeguards and a 30 cm deep pool for the youngest kids.
- Spacious apartments: living room, kitchen, terrace, bedroom and bathroom. They have a sofa bed and enough space to organise yourselves as a family.
- Entertainment: activities all day long, foam parties, mini disco, evening shows and live music. Until past 11 at night.
- Lifeguards: among the best things about the hotel. We saw them react incredibly fast in a tricky situation with a little girl. That gives you real peace of mind.
The bad
- Outdated apartments: furniture, windows, curtains and many details crying out for a renovation. The aesthetic is not current.
- Really weak pillows: thin and uncomfortable. We couldn’t sleep well even folding them. Some of the worst we’ve come across.
- Poor soundproofing: you hear everything. Neighbours, people in common areas, all sorts of noise. If you get loud neighbours, you’ll notice.
- Basic bathroom and amenities: a single dispenser for body and hair, and in our case it didn’t work particularly well. Not enough towels for a full day.

Location and first impressions
The hotel has a resort-style layout, with several apartment buildings separated by gardens. And this part I actually find quite nice.
The grounds have lots of greenery, palm trees, grassy areas and landscaped paths between the buildings. It’s not the typical single-tower hotel, but more of a complex with different blocks spread across the grounds. That makes the setting more pleasant and gives you the feeling of being at a proper family resort .
That said, you can also tell it’s an older hotel. The common areas and especially the apartments need a serious renovation. It’s not that everything is terrible, but the hotel has clearly fallen behind the times .
A practical tip
The buildings don’t have lifts. They’re only two storeys, but if you’re travelling with young children, a pushchair or lots of luggage, it’s important to request a ground floor room at the time of booking.
The apartment and bathroom
Apartment
The good thing is they’re quite large. You get a living room, kitchen, terrace, a bedroom with two beds and a bathroom. In terms of space, they’re pretty good for a family holiday. There’s also a sofa bed, so if you’re travelling with kids you can manage without any hassle.
But the downside is clear: the furniture, windows, curtains and many details are old. They don’t have a modern look and you can tell they need a renovation. It’s the typical apartment from many years ago that’s been holding up, but is now begging for an update.
The bed was fine. You can sleep well — I’d give it a 7.5. But the pillows are really weak . Very thin and not comfortable at all. We couldn’t get a good night’s sleep with them, not even folding or stretching them. The pillows get a 6 at best.
Another important point: the soundproofing is quite poor . You can hear a lot of what’s going on around you, both from neighbours and people walking through the common areas. If you’re unlucky with noisy neighbours, it can bother you quite a bit.
Bathroom
The bathroom is OK. Nothing to write home about, but not a disaster either. It does the job.
The problem is there are no real amenities as such . You get a single dispenser for washing your hands, body and hair — all with the same product. And in our case, the dispenser didn’t work particularly well either. I understand we’re not at a luxury hotel, but if you’re paying a premium for a family resort, the bare minimum would be a decent shampoo and shower gel, or at least separate ones.
We also missed having more towels. They give you one per person and at some point you need them for showering, for the pool, for the gym… and once you’ve used them, you have to go to reception to ask for clean ones.
Not enough towels
One towel per person doesn’t cut it. Between showering, the pool and the gym, you run short quickly. If you can, bring an extra one or keep requesting them at reception as needed.
The bathroom gets a 7 at best.
Food: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Breakfast
Breakfast is average. It does the job, but nothing stands out. You get basic variety, some pastries, sweets, eggs and omelettes, but without much customisation. For example, the omelettes aren’t made to order with ingredients you choose — they’re pre-made and you just grab one.
The worst part of breakfast for me was the coffee . It felt like instant machine coffee, the Nescafé type, rather than freshly ground. Both the taste and texture reminded me of that kind of coffee. And I didn’t like it.
The pastry and sweet section lifts things a bit, and they even have some gluten-free options, but it’s more of the same. Very average. Breakfast gets a 7.
Lunch and dinner
Lunch and dinner we liked a bit more than breakfast.
Nothing that makes you go “wow, that’s delicious”, but nothing particularly bad either. It’s a standard buffet — it does what it’s supposed to, you eat fine and move on.
It doesn’t have the variety you find at other hotels where you get salmon, sea bass, elaborate rice dishes or more premium products. Here you get more basic food, but correct . It’s a family resort buffet: sufficient, functional and without big surprises.
Lunch and dinner get a 7.5.
Water park and pools: the best part of the hotel
Now for the hotel’s strongest point: the water park. This is where Albir Garden really stands out.
There’s a slide area for younger kids, with a very shallow pool — about 30 centimetres — perfect for them to play without much risk. And then there are the taller, faster slides , which are quite a lot of fun.
It’s a water park designed with kids in mind, but adults can enjoy it too. That said, the ideal age is probably up to about 12 or 14. Beyond that, it depends a lot on the child or teenager.
The lifeguards seemed very attentive and friendly . In fact, we saw a situation where a lifeguard reacted incredibly fast when a little girl ran and jumped into the water without knowing how to swim. That gives you a lot of peace of mind. The slides get an 8.5. And for kids’ facilities overall, the hotel gets a 9 — it’s clearly designed with them in mind.
Besides the water park, the hotel has a fairly large main pool . In the centre there’s an area where the DJ sets up for foam parties and other pool games. There’s also a poolside bar where you can get ice cream, snacks and drinks.
The pool works well for both adults and kids. It’s spacious, has a good atmosphere and feels well integrated into the main resort area. The pool gets an 8.
Indoor pool
There’s also an indoor pool focused more on swimming or training. It’s for over-14s only, probably to keep it from becoming a kids’ play area. Useful if you want to get your morning laps in.
Entertainment and shows
The entertainment is another strong point of the hotel.
During the day they run pool activities, parties, games, music, mini disco and different activities for kids. In the evening there are also shows and events. The day we were there they had a reptile show where kids could see the animals up close and even touch them. They also have live music or activities more geared towards adults.
One positive is that the entertainment went on until past 11 at night, so if you want a hotel with plenty going on, you’ll have no shortage here.

Who is this hotel for?
Families with young kids
This is the ideal audience for Albir Garden. Water park, slides, shallow pool, non-stop entertainment, foam parties, mini disco… If you’re travelling with kids aged 3 to 12, they’ll have guaranteed entertainment from start to finish. And the lifeguards give you real peace of mind.
Groups of friends
It works, but it’s not their strong suit. The pools and poolside bar are fine, there’s music and atmosphere during the day. But the hotel is clearly aimed at families, and that shows in the type of activities and the general vibe. If you’re a group looking for more nightlife or an adult atmosphere, there are probably better options.
Couples
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for a couple’s getaway. The atmosphere is 100% family-focused, with kids everywhere, lots of entertainment and noise. If you’re looking for peace, romance or something more refined, this isn’t your place.
Adults facilities
For adults, the hotel has some decent facilities, though they’re not its strongest point.
There’s a gym that’s fairly complete for a standard workout, but you can tell it’s old and not well maintained. The machines could use better upkeep.
There’s also an indoor pool focused more on swimming or training. It’s for over-14s only, probably to prevent it from becoming a kids’ play zone.
Overall, for adults it does the job, but nothing to write home about. Adults facilities get a 7.5.
Staff
Staff is a mixed bag.
The best, without a doubt, are the lifeguards and the entertainment team . You can see they’re engaged, attentive, friendly and eager to help. Kids have fun with them, and that counts for a lot at a family resort.
Reception staff, on the other hand, came across as quite serious. They weren’t rude, but they didn’t give off that holiday-friendly, approachable vibe you’d expect at a family hotel.
At the café and restaurant, the service was fine. Correct, nothing more.
If I break it down: the entertainment team and lifeguards get a solid 9. Reception staff, considerably less — maybe a 7. On average, staff gets an 8.

The Final Verdict
For whom do I recommend it?
Perfect For
- You're travelling with kids aged 3 to 12 and want them to have slides, pools, entertainment and guaranteed fun.
- You want a spacious apartment with kitchen and terrace to organise yourselves as a family.
- Your priority is the kids having a great time and you don't need a modern or designer hotel .
- You find a good price and it's worth it for the water park and activities.
Skip It If
- You want a modern, renovated hotel . Here the apartments and many areas need a refresh.
- You're travelling as a couple and want peace and quiet. This hotel is 100% family-focused, with kids and constant entertainment.
- Sleep quality is a priority for you. Weak pillows and poor soundproofing.
- You expect good food or a buffet with variety. Here it's correct but nothing special.
